Visakhapatnam: Visakhapatnam Research Centre of ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (ICAR-CIFT) has organised a training programme for graduate students on ‘PCR and quantitative PCR based methods.

The event was useful for detection of food borne and aquatic animal pathogens under the Scheduled Caste Sub Plan (SCSP), Government of India flagship programme.

A series of theory-cum-practical sessions were conducted on students were trained on crude DNA iysate extraction from various bacteria, isolation of total DNA from various bacteria, different types of Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), post-PCR analysis, real-time PCR, isolation of plasmid from various bacteria. The programme is practical oriented aimed at enhancing the skills of the students in biotechnology techniques in the identification of seafood borne pathogens and aquatic animal pathogens.

A total of 10 graduate students from Andhra University (Department of Biotechnology) and Dr Lankapalli Bullayya College (Department of Microbiology and Department of Biotechnology) Department of Marine Living resources, Andhra University, Dr VS Krishna college, (Department of Biotechnology) Visakhapatnam attended the five-day training here.
